The rigorous selection process means only a small number of army personnel and civilians ever join its ranks to complete missions around the globe.
Getting access to film them during a live-fire exercise took a huge amount of trust and relationship building, and the filming was unorthodox to hide the soldier's identities.
The result was a peeling back of the veil surrounding the NZSAS.
